I love to do one thing in life more than anything else and that would be making bread. It is an act that screams, "I Love You" with all my heart. Bread making can be frustrating and difficult...fickle in it's ability to perform with the expectations of the maker. Making bread is like living with a man...sometimes it's with wild abandon and sometimes...it. just. ain't. there.
I think this problem has been resolved with the discovery of The Best Bread Recipe Ever. I am not going to reprint any of the recipes used in this post out of respect for these incredible bloggers...just go to visit their links and you can thank me later.
Chickens in the Road, is a captivating blog that I stumbled upon somehow. I have never regretted it. Suzanne Mcminn writes with a free spirit and graciously shared her time honored and true recipe for making bread. This recipe was tempting me, so I made it. Again, go visit Suzanne's blog for complete recipe and simply thorough directions.
This dough rose brilliantly and within the allotted time which was approximately one hour for it to double in size. I love to punch down dough. It is a great experience to alleviate any stress you might be feeling.

I got the loaves into the bread pans and set them out to rise again. And left them again for the allotted time. Once again...they did beautifully.

I returned to find two loaves that did exactly what they were told to do. I like it when bread behaves. It really makes me smile.

See....nice and high. A pillow of yummy goodness ready to go into the oven and make my world perfect. Well that and some of my Amish Country Butter.

This is attempt number one and while it isn't the prettiest loaf I have ever made...let me just tell you. The smell emitting from my oven was enough to make a crazy woman waiting for BLOGFEST feel sane. Of course, I am not as good as My Metabolic Rate is Stuck.
She is much better than I am...she buttered and split top her bread, but I am thrilled that I could inspire her to make this recipe the same day I made mine. That just tickled me pink!!!
Of course, I had to taste it hot, out of the oven with some Amish Country Butter melted on top...just because I am nice like that. This bread has a crisp and crunchy exterior while the inside is light and airy. It holds it's shape and the texture is fine as silk. As I type, I am nibbling on a slice with some mayonnaise and vine ripened tomatoes and a little S & P. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Well...it would if you made this super easy egg salad recipe found on Noble Pig's blog. Cathy is one of my favorite read's and when she says something is quick and easy and yummy as well...she is usually on the mark. I trust her culinary expertise and exquisite food tastes. If I lived on the west coast, I would probably be stalking her, but I don't so I just live to see her blog and what she's cooking up next in her adventurous life.

I made the scrumptious and super easy, egg salad and got it all chilled in the fridge while I fried up some thick slices of country smoked bacon. Home-made bread, fresh romaine, crisp bacon, and the creamy egg salad made for a wonderful light, summer supper.
Yeah...it was that good. Come on...make bread and make happy.

I love the bacon addition! Now I want more! Beautiful loaves too!
Makes me want to make some bread. No, really it makes me want to have someone make me some bread;)
Just made my first loaf of bread EVER with the help of my mom last weekend. There's something very cathartic about kneading.
And now I'm hungry.
See you tomorrow!
Oh how I'm trying to resist learning how to make bread. I could live on bread...good bread with real butter.
Starving now!!! That looks delicious :)
I have tried Suzanne's bread with butter and it is wonderful. I've had to quit for a while, my doctor has been giving me lectures about being too fat.
I also read Cathy and wondered about the egg salad, yours looks and sounds great.
Sigh...I want some! Sorry I am MIA. I am sooo busy. I will be back at the old blogging thing full-time again next week. Love you much!
I think I gained 5 lbs reading this .. I used to love baking bread...
I love that! And I can smell the bread and bacon all the way up here;)
I'm still a little skeptical about the scrambled egg salad, but Cathy is never wrong about these things. Since I'm stuck close to home with a flat tire on the Saturn and only a Suburban with NO AIR CONDITIONING! and an empty fridge to boot, maybe I will take the Suburban to the tiny grocery store in our small town and get the bacon and eggs to make this for tonight's supper. Yeah, I can do that:o)
OK...I just gained 5 lbs. looking at that bread! Homemade bread is definitely at the top of my list! I love to make Sourdough Bread around Christmastime, especially. Oh, that glorious smell!
I'm glad the bread turned out well for you! It looks beautiful. I may have to try that egg salad now!
Yummy! It's OK for you to make me some~ I promise to share with Cdub!
You INSPIRE me every day with your posts and your talent for every thing you do!
PLEASE take lots of pix's and jot down notes while at blogfest...I SO WANT to be with everyone and meet you all! Maybe next year!
Dink a couple of drinks for me...I will CERTAINLY be THINKING of you all ...AAAll WEEKEND!! :)
This post is making my mouth water. I saw that recipe over at Noble Pig's and thought how much sense it made. Cooked eggs, rather than boiled, for egg salad. Quick and easy! I love the bacon addition, too.
I LOVE homemade bread, but I just don't have the umph to get off my patootie and make it myself too often.
Which is why I own a breadmaker and use it almost every day.
I also use it for the dough setting for super easy cinnamon rolls.
My bread maker is set right now and I will be enjoying fresh bread in one hour and 31 minutes.
And all I had to do was put in the ingredients.
That sandwich looked super yummy too. I bet the bacon really does it.

I am bread challenged, although, if I use my bread machine...it comes out fine! I have a bread machine dependancy!
Ok, that looks so much more yummy than the two pieces of toast I had for supper............ too tired to cook after getting stuff ready for the quilt show.
Bacon on egg salad???? Sounds yummy; I'll have to try that one out next time.
Hugs!
I can only imagine the aroma that was floating around your home. YUM!!!
That looks sinfully delish! I will be making that very soon.
I love to make bread, reminds of my chlidhood with my grandmother.
Those look like they smell divine!
Yum. Just YUM. I LOVE Suzanne's blog too and will check out the other one you mentioned--SSG does love an egg salad. But she's pretty sure SHE has the best recipe!
I personally think IIII have the best bread recipe ever! We could have a bake off but with blogs unfortunately no one could taste them. I try to make bread once a week. I was a slacker last week. Darn me.
